In children’s ministry, we spend most of our time talking with kids. We’ll talk about the Bible story for the week, their favorite snacks, or what interest is capturing their attention most each week. For a lot of us, conversations with kids feel natural. But in those times when we need to talk with their parents… we might need some help.

While you might not have regularly scheduled parent conversations, they’re still a key part of your family strategy (and you can steal ours here!) These conversations give you time to offer support, talk through something difficult, or answer questions that might come up while a kid is in your ministry.

To help you navigate these different types of conversations, we’ve made a few guides to help you be ready for open, honest, and direct conversations with parents whenever they arise.

We’ve created four different Conversation Guides to help you navigate each of these conversations…

  • Family Crisis for supporting a family during a personal tragedy.
  • Behavioral Problems for addressing concerns with a kid.
  • Parent Questions & Concerns for when a parent comes to you with questions or negative feedback.
  • Parent Recruitment for when you want to learn more about a parent and potential volunteer.

With these free parent Conversation Guides, you’ll get the tools you need to help you walk through a parent conversation from preparation to follow-up. Each Conversation Guide comes with a handout to help you take notes during your conversation so you know your next steps to take and how to offer support for each family.

This free parent resource is just a sample of what comes with a subscription to Grow Kids Curriculum. With a Grow subscription, you’ll get parent-specific tools and guides, like…

  • An editable parent handbook
  • Tip videos and scripts
  • Parent meeting guides
  • Parent event guides
  • Parent discussion group guides
  • Parent communication guides and email templates
  • And more!

You’ll get each of these resources and our complete ministry strategy to build the best ministry in seven key areas…

  • Teaching
  • Discipleship
  • Environments
  • Events
  • Volunteers
  • Families
  • Annual Planning
